Creepypasta: Friendship
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was my favorite game growing up, I would play it every evening. I was a Torchic, my partner a Mudkip. We were an unstoppable combination in the game, and I honestly came to think of my team as my family.
After about a year of playing the game, I got to the point where there was really nothing left to do. I had gotten attached to my partner, now a lv.100 Swampert, and had done almost everything you could possibly do in the game. Not wanting to restart it, I simply bought the game's opposite, Red Rescue Team. I went online to learn the questions and answers for each playable Pokemon, this time I wanted to be an Eevee, and learned that for Eevee, you had to say you were a girl. Funny since Eevee is a male dominant species. Regardless, I went through the intro and answered everything that would get me Eevee. I saw its happy little icon appear and then decided on my partner, a Totodile I named Bunch. I felt a sense of nostalgia as I began playing, both games had the same storyline to them.
The game was something I looked forward to playing everyday, the sense of my team being my family coming back. Not even the fact that I knew the story already could keep me from loving it. I became cut off from family and friends, the world around me disappeared. It was just me and Bunch, that was all I needed. I was never paying attention to anything around me ever. I was playing while walking down the street one day and was hit by a car. I was hurt, but luckily I was alive. That convinced me that I had played too much, so I simply took a break from it, around the point where you meet Gardevoir. I didn't play for about a week, but eventually came back for it.
I received the mission to scale Mt. Thunder and defeat Zapdos. I made quick work of it, winning the battle handily despite my partner having a type disadvantage. The next scene where Alakazam's team comes and directs us off to the Great Canyon and talk to Xatu began and ended, and my team walked off screen.
"I think that there is more that the Eevee could not tell us. I doubt that he even knows enough himself. The world is in danger, and I sincerely believe that Xatu will tell us all that needs to be known." said Alakazam. 'He? I told this game that I was a girl. It has no way of knowing that I'm a guy! I guess it's just a little text glitch.' I thought, creeped out a bit.
I continued on to the Great Canyon and had quite some difficulty reaching the end. This dungeon was much harder than I remembered, but I hadn't faced it in a long time so my memory would probably not be serving me well.
We did eventually make it to the top where we saw Xatu staring straight into the sun, like in the other game. Bunch walked over to him and then looked at me, asking how we should get his attention. I hit tickle, because that had always been funny to me. Bunch tickled until Xatu finally gave in and turned to us. His script appeared in text boxes like it should, then some odd text began to display.
"You are, human yes? But I see much more than that. You don't even know it. You are a spirit, no? I see that even though you were at one point a human, you passed on yet somehow came here. The form you took was the one you wanted, the world was perfect for you in every way. You got to play the hero and got a best friend. You are living in a heaven that you created with your energy, while this is very real to you, it is but not true. The truth needs to be told to you now, you are dead. Even as I speak now, you shake your head and believe it isn't true. I am trying to save you before you meet the same fate my spirit has." Now I knew that wasn't normal script for Xatu, this wasn't part of the story! I began to worry that the game was hacked when more text appeared.
"I must tell you, there is one here that is very real, the one using your energy to make this world. They are the reason that you had difficulty getting here, they never wanted you to know this. They don't want me to tell you what you must know so you may rest in peace, unlike my spirit. They wanted exactly what you wanted. They wanted to be a hero in a perfect world, where they could have a friend. They were never able to do that on their own, but by chance they came across you, a lost spirit. You died young, such a pity. They used that. They manipulated you with a game that you play even now, they let you be what you wanted and they were exactly what you wanted. They want to keep you trapped here, little Eevee, the same way that they trapped my spirit here when I passed on. Theyare here right now, hiding in plain sight." I scanned the screen, noticing that the Eevee's sprite did the same. There was only me, Xatu and Bunch. I couldn't be me or Xatu, and it was silly for it to be Bunch. After all, Bunch was my partner and friend! Right?
"Even now you deny it, knowing that it's true." The text box startled me. Could he be talking about Bunch? I refused to believe that any of this was happening, this game must be hacked! Xatu seemed to be looking up throughout the screen at me. Bunch turned towards him. "The one you trust most is the one that wants you to be theirs forever." Xatu finished speaking and Bunch started talking.
"Oh, you naive chicken you. That will be enough! Not another word from you! You weren't a good friend for me, so I went and found someone to replace your spirit. Now that you are no longer needed, and since to insist on trying to deprive me of a chance to get a new friend forever, it's time you were gone!" Buch bit down on Xatu's neck and pulled his head off. He dropped it onto the ground where it rolled to the Eevee's feet. I gasped in horror at the sight. "Sadly, what head said is true." Bunch continued, looking up through the screen. "I have trapped you in a warped world of my own. I never had a friend before, I died alone. That stupid chicken was another that I trapped in hopes of keeping him as a friend forever, but he refused. Then I found you and knew I could finally have my perfect world. I trapped you just as you left your body, you never noticed that you had died. I found your game, and knew that was the world to make. Continue on existence in the game with you. I only want a friend... and I'm not about to give one up!" The screen started to pull me into it, and I blacked out.
When I reawakened, I was in a forest clearing. I stood up, only to fall forward onto my hands. I looked down and saw me hands were really paws covered in a course brown fur. I ran over to a small pond.
I was the Eevee that was in my game.
That's when I saw Bunch walk out from the shadows, flashing his sharp Totodile teeth. "Finally," he spoke, "I shall have you. Now we can never be alone ever again. You have nowhere to go now, you are mine now!" he cackles evilly.
A thought went through my head and made me realize; I really did die in the car wreak, now I'm trapped by a ghost Totodile in a fake world forever.
I sat and cried, suddenly feeling unnerved and horrified at the thought that I really was dead. Death is such a hard thing to realize, and I never noticed until after it had happened to me.
Bunch cackles again. "What should we do first, friend?" he finished with a demented grin.
